Tsvangirai Bulawayo Rally in Pictures

BULAWAYO – MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai used a weekend rally in Bulawayo’s Stanley Square (Makokoba) to reassert his authority and assure party supporters that internal divisions over leadership renewal would not lead to a collapse of the party.

“The MDC leadership is very clear in terms of our mission and objectives of the struggle and where we want to go. We cannot be diverted by the conflict that is happening in our party. If somebody has a different idea, we cherish that internal discourse.

“If you are a child of MDC who is committed to the struggle for democratic change, you must commit yourself to the vision and mission of liberating the people,” Tsvangirai said.

As reported exclusively by Nehanda Radio last week, the weekend rally was used to parade officials from the MDC led by Welshman Ncube who defected back to the larger MDC under Tsvangirai. A few days before former St Mary’s MP and MDC-99 leader Job Sikhala was also paraded in Harare at a press conference.

“We are not against individual opinions in the party but all we are saying is there should be a direction. You cannot just wake up in the morning and say whatever you want just like that. Democracy is not mobocracy. We will condemn indiscipline so that the party can move ahead,” Tsvangirai said.

“Let’s come back to the basics, let’s go back to the basis of the spirit of 1999 which is the spirit of unity and purpose. That is the spirit that is going to drive us to the last mile. We need that so that we energise the people,” he said.

Notable faces in attendance were Douglas Mwonzora, Nelson Chamisa, Theresa Makoni, Thokozani Khupe, Morgan Femai, Lovemore Moyo, Piniel Denga, Morgan Komichi, Ruth Labode, Eddie Cross and Albert Mhlanga among others.
