Gay rights are not human rights – Mugabe

Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has reportedly thrown his weight behind Ugandan leader Yoweri Museveni who signed a “draconian” anti-gay law last week.

The new law which activists described as “draconian” holds that “repeat homosexuals” should be jailed for life. It also outlaws the promotion of homosexuality and requires people to denounce gays.

According to The Herald, Mugabe hinted that his government would soon deal decisively with homosexuals in his country. Mugabe said Museveni was “fighting a just fight”, dismissing “the notion peddled by countries such as the United States that gay rights were human rights”.

Mugabe said Zimbabwe would not allow children to grow up thinking that there was an alternative to the God-prescribed marriage system. Mugabe has in the past been quoted as saying homosexuals are “worse than pigs and dogs”. News24
