Suluma hesitant to release new album

United States-based gospel sensation Shingisai Suluma, popularly known as Mai Suluma, will release her latest project in singles because of piracy. Her 10th album Rwendo was recorded last year but so far, only one song has been released. 

Mai Suluma, who is in the country for the festive holidays, told Standardlife&style she is hesitant to release the album.

“We finished recording my new album that carries eight tracks last year, but I am hesitating to release it because of piracy,” she said.

“So we are working on how to release the songs in a unique way, probably as singles using social media such as iTunes and Facebook,” she said.

Some of the songs on the album are Paye Paye which she performed the last time she was in Zimbabwe, and Rwendo, which she released recently on Facebook. Suluma has indicated that she would work on an album to cater for the American audience.

“Most of my songs are in vernacular and a few in English so, in future, I am going to work on an album specifically targeted for the US,” said Mai Suluma.

She will play at The Rainbow Towers on Wednesday.

“I want to urge all gospel fans to come in their numbers to my show on Christmas Day,” she said.

“There is a possibility of having one big show before I leave, the organisers are still planning, but nothing is concrete at the moment.”

Some of Mai Suluma’s popular tracks include Mirira Mangwanani, Tatenda Taona, Maitiro Enyu, Nanhasi, Mumaoko aMwari and Fara Zvakadaro, among others. She has won several national awards and is arguably the most accomplished Zimbabwean female gospel artiste. Standard
