Musona scores as Chiefs cruise past Amazulu

SOUTH AFRICA – Kaizer Chiefs cruised past AmaZulu as four second half goals from Siyabonga Nkosi (a brace), Knowledge Musona and Bernard Parker extended Chiefs’ winning streak to six at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday.

Kaizer Chiefs came into this clash top of the PSL log following their five wins in a row, as Mamelodi Sundowns squandered an opportunity to reclaim top spot on Friday night.

AmaKhosi were quick to get out of the blocks and should have taken the lead in the 5th minute when Knowledge Musona dribbled past two AmaZulu defenders inside the box, but his shot lacked power as Tapuwa Kapini easily punched for a corner.

Seven minutes later, Bernard Parker’s left-footed effort from the left hand side of the AmaZulu area went inches wide after Siphiwe Tshabalala cleverly lobbed the ball over the home side’s defence.

Chiefs were all over their opponents and Musona came close to breaking the deadlock from Tshabalala’s 22nd minute corner, but he could only flick it over the bar.

The visitors continued to surge forward using Musona’s pace, but it is Parker who would feel unfortunate as his shot hit the upright and back into play in the 28th minute.

Usuthu struggled to get behind the Chiefs’ defence, as Itumeleng Khune continued to enjoy the game without being tested.

The last goalscoring chance of the half came in the 41st minute when Tshabalala’s left-footed curler brushed the crossbar and over the top with Kapini in no man’s land.

Stuart Baxter introduced Siyabonga Nkosi in place of Katsande before the start of the second half, and the Newcastle-born midfielder made an immediate impact as his well taken shot was saved by Kapini for a corner in the 46th minute.

Chiefs failed to convert from the resultant corner as Nkhatha’s header was cleared off the line by Khulekani Madondo before Parker’s volley came off the crossbar to allow Kapini to recover and collect.

Siyabonga Nkosi was not to be denied in the 55th minute as he fired Chiefs in the lead with a powerful, thunderous half-volley to send the AmaKhosi fans wild.

The PSL champions doubled their lead in the 61st minute when Knowledge Musona slotted home the rebound after Kapini had blocked Tshabalala’s shot. Nkosinathi Mthiyane nearly pulled one back for the home side in the 67th minute, but his headed effort narrowly sailed over Khune’s goal.

Bernard Parker got himself on the scoresheet with a cheeky chip in the 80th minute following up on Nkhatha’s brilliant shot that was parried away by Kapini, as AmaKhosi looked very much in control.

The closest AmaZulu came to scoring again was in the 83rd minute when Sthembiso Ngcobo’s header came off the upright from Ayanda Dlamini’s cross.

Siyabonga Nkosi then grabbed his brace and fourth of the day for the team, with four minutes remaining on the clock after he was smartly spotted by Musona inside the AmaZulu box.

Khulekani Madondo’s found a consolation goal deep in stoppage time after a huge deflection saw Khune going the wrong way. AmaKhosi bagged all the three points to go five points clear. Goal.com
