ZVIMBA – President Robert Mugabe on Saturday revealed that his only surviving sister, Bridget, was critically ill and set to undergo surgery at a local hospital in Zimbabwe. President Mugabe himself travels back and forth for medical care in the Far East.

Bridget collapsed at the burial of her sister Sabina at the National Heroes Acre in 2010 and admitted at Parirenyatwa Hospital. She is still in the intensive care unit at the health centre. August this year marked three years in hospital and during that time she has been in a coma.
Addressing mourners at the burial of former Mashonaland West Governor and Resident Minister Nelson Samkange in Zvimba, Mugabe said his sister was experiencing breathing problems.
“Ndanga ndakateerera vanachiremba. Sisi vari kuchipatara. Vanachiremba vanga vachiti zvinenge zvavamba kunetsa. Kufema kwacho kunenge kwava kunetsa. Saka vanga vachikumbira kuti vaite tumaoperation twavangaite here, ndikati itayi,” he said.
“Zvikanzi kana mozobva ikoko kuma4, mozopfuura nekuno. Saka hameno kuti zvichafamba seyi. Sisi vanenge vaakuzorwarisisa kuhospital. Tinongorambawo tichinamata, tichiti Mwari kana vachitibatsira votibatsira. Kana rasvika zuva rake rekumutora hatingarambi,” he added.
In June this year Mugabe’s nephew Leo Mugabe said it was a very difficult situation for the whole family.
“She has been the same and we cannot tell if she is responding to medication or not because she cannot talk. I think she still has her sense of feeling, because when you hold her hand you can feel it move, as if she is returning your handshake,” he said.
