There was drama at the Harare Gardens last weekend after an Alick Macheso fan confronted former Orchestra Mberikwazvo favourite, Tichaona Chapfika over his involvement with Extra Kwazvose.

While officially the Macheso camp claims to have no problems with Kwazvose, events on the ground suggest otherwise. As if to confirm this, a fan confronted Chapfika when Macheso announced the Chitungwiza based businessman, retired referee and politician.
Chapfika, who is related to Mberikwazvo manager William Tsandukwa, has been with Macheso’s band since its formation- he started by providing transportation and later became a doorman. He was however, involved in formative stages of Kwazvose whose key members were once at Mberikwazvo.
Chapfika, who had been the founding manager, left Kwazvose a month after the group’s launch. But while Macheso had publicly endorsed Kwazvose, some within his inner circle are of a different view.
And when Chapfika turned up at Harare Gardens where Macheso was staging a show on Sunday, he was confronted and insulted by an overzealous Mberikwazvo fan over his role in the formation of Kwezvose. The fan questioned Chapfikaa’s presence accusing him of being a saboteur.
The musical fan shouted “Chapfika urimh*** waida kuparadza band manje zvakaramba”.
The fan also attacked Chapfika’s wearing of Zanu PF party regalia, saying the politician was trying to intimidate “them” by wearing the clothes. This later turned ugly as Chapfika took matters into his own hands and attacked the fan.
“Wanditukirei, why are you insulting me? Are you Macheso?
“What’s your problem, wanditukirei do you know me,” added Chapfika.
Chapfika then grabbed the fan close to where Macheso was performing.
Baba Sharo then pleaded with Chapfika saying,
“Aiwa Chapfika usadaro no no Chapfika.”
And Chapfika responded,
“Why is he insulting me? ndamuita sei for what reason? You are quiet there and he is busy taunting me”.
The attacked fan, whose name could not be established was at a loss of words and seemed to be in deep pain. Ah ndauyawo kuzofara and he is attacking me. I don’t know what he is talking about and I never said anything bad about him. I am in pain and I don’t know what he is talking about. I don’t even know him,” he said.
Only this year in March the former Chitungwiza Ward 20 Councillor appeared in court facing assault charges. Chapfika, a retired referee, is accused of stabbing another man at the height of a domestic dispute. Appearing before a Chitungwiza magistrate Chapfika pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Prosecutor Mr Lovet Muringwa alleged that on February 12 this year, Chapfika drove in the evening with his relatives. He allegedly accused Kwindima of peddling lies to his wife. He said Chapfika, who had been accused of starting a fight, allegedly traded insults with Marufu.
The argument allegedly degenerated into a fight and Chapfika drew a knife. He allegedly stabbed Marufu once on the left brow. Chapfika, according to the State, was restrained from assaulting Marufu further by some of his relatives.
Marufu reported the matter to the police leading to Chapfika’s arrest.
