HARARE – Radio personality DJ Munya Mlimo along with his two accomplices accused of murdering a Harare man Tinashe Magorimbo has been further remanded in custody to June 19.

DJ Munya and company were advised to apply for bail at the High Court when they initially appeared in court. They will be in custody pending the application.
It is the State’s case that in February this year, DJ Munya discovered that his wife was having an affair with the now deceased. He allegedly approached the deceased in a bid to be compensated for the adulterous act demanding US$ 5000.
The court heard that the deceased made a part payment of US$1000 to DJ Munya through his alleged accomplices Taurai Jani and Mohamed Matare, leaving a balance of US$4000 which was to be paid in instalments.
It is said that the deceased then became evasive until early May when DJ Munya engaged Jani and Matare to ‘deal’ with him until the whole outstanding amount was paid. It is claimed that on May 13 the deceased remained home when his wife went to work as he was to leave for work a bit later.
In the afternoon he called his wife informing her that his cellphone battery was low and she could contact him on another line 0739 017 969, a number which was found in DJ Munya and Jani’s phone books upon their arrest.
Further allegations are that the two once phoned the same number on May 10. On that same day it is said the deceased went to West End Hospital where he wanted to make a telephone call and requested the receptionist to call a taxi for him.
The deceased reportedly took the taxi to Cranborne and was dropped at number 44 O’Corner Road and that was the last time he was seen. Claims are that on May 14 at around 10pm, the deceased’s Human Resources Manager, received a text message demanding US$5000 ransom for his (deceased) release.
The State further alleged that on the same day, DJ Munya went to the deceased’s residence looking for him and met his wife and assured her that Magorimbo (deceased) will be back the following day and that she should not report to the police.
Further allegations are that on May 18, at around 19:15pm, the deceased was seen by his wife Millicent Magorimbo staggering and collapsed at the basement of their flat. He was reportedly unable to speak and was naked and tied with a blue shoe lace on both hands.
He was rushed to West End Hospital where he was admitted in the ICU at West End Hospital and Diagnosed of Poisoning. He reportedly died the following morning and a post-mortem established that he died due to poisoning. H Metro
