Cry the beloved country for the thousands who were massacred by the 5th Brigade, during Gukurahundi. Their only crime was that they were Ndebele.

Cry the beloved country for the thousands massacred in 2008, their crime being to support the MDC.

Cry the beloved country for our people whose shelter were destroyed under operation Murambatsvina.

Cry the beloved country for our diamonds which are enriching a few pockets, while the majority are wallowing in abject poverty, and for our parastatals which have been militarised and are now being run like individual businesses.

Cry the beloved country for our cities without running water, where our women spend hours queuing for a communal borehole and for our young people who trample the streets with no job in sight.
