HARARE – Orchestra Mberikwazvo manager William “Yellow” Tsandukwa has lashed out at critics who insist that Alick Macheso should find a new person to run his affairs.

Following Macheso’s appointment as the Zimbabwe Red Cross humanitarian ambassador, there were calls from some quarters that he needed a ‘better’ manager.
Tsandukwa hit out at these critics describing them as misguided and misinformed claiming that he made Macheso what he is today.
“These critics are misinformed because they don’t know our vision and where we are going as Orchestra Mberikwazvo. Where were they when I offered Macheso Z$2000 and free transport around 1998 when he approached me with a copy of his debut album Magariro?” fumed Tsundukwa.
“By then, there were lots of people who had more money than mine but they could not observe the talent and vision that Macheso had. Even myself, I could not predict his future but I just offered to help him from the bottom of my heart.
“I think those who are calling themselves educated and suitable candidates just want to capitalise on his fame and fortune built over the years.
“If they are educated enough they must bring business proposals to us and we will then hand them to our lawyers and business consultants for consideration. They must just support like what our fans are continuously doing.
“Those critics should know that artists are born and not made. I know that if I leave Macheso they will convince him to change his brand.”
Tsundukwa however said he accepts criticism.
“I am also human and I do accept criticism but it ought to be constructive and respectful. Criticism is key to prosperity. I have since changed my cell number due to some of these critics who have been hurling obscenities at him. We also discuss as a band with Macheso. His humility has made him great.”
