Guspy Warrior features dad on new album

RISING dancehall chanter, Emmanuel “Guspy Warrior” Manyeruke has collaborated with his father, renowned gospel musician, Mechanic Manyeruke on his fifth album to be released soon.

The chanter opened up on his forthcoming album saying the collaboration was one of his many initiatives to cement relations between himself and his father.

Guspy Warrior said he did the collaboration with his father to cement a strong relationship that already exists between the two, contrary to assertions that they do not see eye to eye.

“On the 12-track album titled “Handikwanise Kuti Ndizvitaure”, I collaborated with my father on one of the songs and hope that many people will fall in love with it.

“This will be a surprise to everyone, particularly those who were spreading malicious information, that I was chased away from home and I am not in good books with my old man,” said the dancehall chanter.

Warrior collaborated with his father on a track called “Torima Munda Mumwe”, which is likely to take set the dancehall hubs alight. The talented youthful singer shared some strong lines on the track saying, “Torima Munda Mumwe, “Ndorima Ndiri Kuraggae, Mudhara Kugospel, “Zhizha rikasvika tokohwa, “Mhuri nechikafu dzofinhwa.”

He was quick to point out that although he was a dancehall chanter, he could still work with his father, a renowned gospel musician since both of them were artistes. “People differ one way or the other. Some may ask why I decided to sing something totally different from my father’s.

“But there is need to know that we are inspired by different circumstances and situations and we cannot do the same thing.”

The album opens up with the title track, “Munda Mumwe” that is likely to generate a lot of interest as well as receive heavy rotation and rave reviews. “The album touches on a number of social issues that affect people on a daily basis,” he said

The youngster showed his high level of creativity on some of the tracks in terms of lyrical composition and instruments arrangement. Other tracks that are on the album are “Seunononga”, “Kakambani”, “Breathless”, “Hatisi Matofo” featuring Princo Spice and “I Love You”.

Apart from being a musician, he is also a producer at his Mafia 19 studios based in Chitungwiza. Guspy Warrior started off his career a few years back and is slowly rising to become one of Zimbabwe’s notable dancehall artistes.

Some of Guspy’s songs include “Summer Time”, “Ghetto Youths”, “Usarambe”, “Mastaera” and “Dancehall Champion” featuring Sniper Storm and Dadza D. Guspy Warrior has managed to hold his own among the country’s premier dancehall artistes.

He has shared the stage with top Jamaican acts like Capleton, Jah Thunder and Elephant Man among others. “I was inspired mainly by Jamaican musicians, Sizzla Kalonji, Gentleman and Turbulence, to mention just a few”, said the former Musengezi High School student.

Guspy Warrior did not spring from the dark; but was largely inspired and mentored by another popular dancehall maestro, Simbarashe Maphosa better known as Templeman, who is also his manager.
