Bkay n Kazz up for several awards at Zimaa UK

Afro-Pop music duo Bkay n Kazz are in the running for several awards at the Zimbabwe Music and Arts Awards UK 2012. The awards ceremony in their third year will be held on Saturday at the Holiday Inn Maidenhead-Windsor.

Technically Bkay n Kazz stand to win two awards despite three nominations. They have two videos nominated under Video of the Year for Tendi and Dancehall Style. They are also in the running for Male Artist of the Year.

Other prominent artists nominated include Oliver Mtukudzi, Nox Guni, Winky D, Stunner, Roki, Alick Macheso, Cynthia Mare, Karen Stally, Roby Gee, Sharon Rose, Decibel, film directors Demetria Karonga and Lorraine Fox.

Although the awards are only open to those artists resident in the UK, they also recognise artists who have done shows in the UK under the “Touring Artist of the Year” category.

Onismos Mposhi one of the coordinators said the “format focuses primarily on those involved in the different arts sectors as it is a sector that has been making huge strides in enhancing the country’s cultural image in the United Kingdom.”

The awards ceremony will form the centrepiece of the event which includes dinner and live entertainment. Awards will be handed out to the winners by prominent members of the community as well as specially invited quests.

Mposhi said the winners will be decided via an online poll. This year they took the unprecedented step of disqualifying nominees in two categories due to irregular voting patterns pointing towards cheating.

The attempt to cheat was in the Broadcasting: Radio Presenter Or DJ of the Year category where 686 rogue votes were made from the same IP address from a server based in the USA over a 12 minute period.

Meanwhile entertainment for the awards night will be provided by musicians, poets, dancers and comedians. Two time ZIMAA UK nominees, Kamikaze Test Pilots will be delivering their thumping rock music with a Zimbabwean twist. Visit the Zimaa Website Here
