In a meeting with US ambassador Christopher Dell on March 30, 2007, Moyo advised that sanctions had to hit hard the key players in Zanu PF to weaken President Robert Mugabe and his party.

“On sanctions, Moyo accepted the placing of policy makers and their families on the sanctions list, but urged us not to list Parliamentarians who are not members of either the Zanu PF politburo or central committee,” reads part of the leaked cable on the WikiLeaks website. Moyo is one of those in Zanu PF who make the most noise denouncing sanctions.

Moyo, whom the US officials describe as a useful messenger, would sometimes initiate the calls to the embassy whenever he had gathered fresh information according to the cables. He also sought US assistance to remove Mugabe.

When the WikiLeaks cables were exposed last year, Moyo demanded the arrest of Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai for treason after it was revealed that the MDC boss had met US officials and discussed politics.

His own cables had not yet been published then. Daily News
