At times I wish I was old enough to have witnessed the day of freedom but am also glad that I have a father who always has stories to tell about the war in Zimbabwe. He recalls the times of crossing the Limpopo and am sure he added spice in some of it just to show how strong a man he was.

His voice grows louder as he talks about the excitement of training in Mozambique and his visit to Maputo. At some point he begins to whisper and speaks calmly and soft about the lives that were lost during the war and the friends he was never to see again.
You can just feel the tense moments and the painful thoughts that come with it. As he carries on with the story his voice begins to rise louder and louder. Yes finally the day of freedom! He takes pride in that moment and one can never take it away from him.
This was taken from a status message from a friend on Facebook. “Zimbabwe you are 31years old. How is your husband and kids? Zimbabwe replies “He is aging and losing it sometimes and my kids have all fled from him to live and work in neighboring villages. But Zimbabwe you are still young with your aging husband, what’s your wish? Well its to live him and run away with a younger man who has promised to unify me with all my children and friends that have abandoned me.” (S.M)
To Zimbabwe and her children, our land, I wish you all a Happy 31years of Independence
