A six bedroom double storey mansion overlooking the beach in South Africa and belonging to former Finance Minister Christopher Kuruneri, will be sold by auction on Thursday.
The house worth about R6 million is one of two luxury homes owned by Kuruneri in Llandudno, Cape Town – a suburb popular with movie stars and wealthy businessmen.
We understand he is getting rid of the Apostle Road home to focus on finishing the construction of the other property in the same area, a four-storey mansion in nearby Sunset Avenue.
In 2007 Kuruneri lost his job as Finance Minister after being charged with circumventing Zimbabwe’s controversial foreign currency laws after buying the two houses. He was later acquitted but not before the rumour mill had its say.
It was suggested Kuruneri had acted as host in South Africa for first Lady Grace Mugabe who was said to be having an affair with businessman James Makamba. Just like Kuruneri, Makamba had to flee Zimbabwe facing similar charges.
