Dumiso Dabengwa

One month after being removed from a list of Zanu PF officials under targeted sanctions by the United States government, ZAPU President Dumiso Dabengwa will travel to London, in the United Kingdom to meet party supporters.

Announcing the trip Artwell Ndlovu, the Secretary for Information, Publicity and Marketing for ZAPU Europe Province, said the party will have a general meeting in London, on the 14th January 2011. Dabengwa and ZAPU Secretary General Ralph Mguni will address the meeting at 18:00hrs. Ndlovu said the venue details will be confirmed in due course.

Dabengwa and Thenjiwe Lesabe, two former Zanu PF stalwarts, were delisted from US targeted sanctions after they quit the 1987 unity accord between ZAPU and Zanu PF. Before that as Home Affairs Minister Dabengwa was complicit in the terror machinery run by Zanu PF and soon found himself under sanctioned.

In December the US Department of the Treasury, Office of Foreign Assets Control announced it had dropped Dabengwa and Lesabe as “circumstances related to these individuals no longer warrant their inclusion on the US sanctions list”. Dabengwa’s daughter, Ijeoma, was also dropped from the targeted sanctions list.

The US said both Dabengwa and Lesabe ‘are no longer members of Zanu PF. Both individuals left Zanu PF to re-launch the ZAPU party, which publicly supports constitutional reform and multiparty democracy.” Nehanda Radio
