Mtukudzi, Awilo and Ringo rock London

Thousands of Zimbabweans thronged London’s Stratford Rex on Friday to revel in the music of Oliver Mtukudzi, Awilo Longomba and Ringo Madlingozi. Organized by the Icons of Africa promotions company the show brought together three acts who are well known in Southern Africa.

Several weeks after losing his son Sam Mtukudzi in a tragic car crash, Tuku as he is affectionately known proved he had lost none of his touch and gave a solid performance.

Mtukudzi’s manager and drummer Sam Mataure last week told journalists;

“We are dedicating these gigs to the memory of Sam. We are acutely aware that we were booked to entertain, and we will try to strike a balance between remembering Sam and enjoying music on the night.”
