How Peter Moyo lost his Benz to robber

By Takawira ‘Photovet’ Dapi

HARARE – Peter Moyo has spoken about the robber who almost made away with his E320 Mercedes Benz vehicle in a foiled robbery on Tuesday. The car theft occurred as the young Ingwe was preparing for his album launch, that was at Zim Cafe last night.

“This guy (the robber, identified as Irvine) is someone who always comes to my shows. I see him every now and then as he is always in the company of people I know,” said Peter.

“So when he heard me talk about my intention to have my shocks repaired and my wheel aligned he immediately volunteered to have that done for me.

“I sent our dancer, known as Officer, with him but he sent Officer back to tell me how much it would cost. When Officer went back the guy was gone but we were not alarmed as we thought he had gone to fix the car.

“I was shocked to get a call from the police about three hours later, when we were beginning to wonder where the guy had gone, informing me that my car had been used in a foiled robbery.”

Apparently, Irvine wanted to use Peter’s car in a robbery at Road Port and was immediately mobbed as the forex dealers identified Peter’s car.

“When the forex dealers saw my car, one of them identified it as I usually deal with that dealer when I want Rands to travel to South Africa-and that is the person he tried to rob of R30 000,” said Peter

The said forex dealer is seven months pregnant Martha Nyahunde and Desmond Muzekei and they also narrated how Manhire almost robbed them of R30 000 and tried to kidnap Martha in the process.

“I got a call from Martha saying she needed R30 000 as she had found a customer and I brought her the money. I told them kuti vaitire madhiri ipapo but that guy said he was afraid of the police and he would bring Martha back after the deal and drove off.

“We called Martha after a few minutes and she said she was fine and they were still counting the money.

“But as we continued to call her, her phone went off. We kept trying and when the call went through we heard her screaming whilst the guy was yelling, “Siya steering!” that is when we decided to go and make a police report at Central,” said Desmond.

Meanwhile Martha had been driven to Good Hope whilst she concentrated on counting the money.

“He said he will drive me back and I was comfortable with that but as I counted the money, I realized the guy had kept driving and I had not seen the direction he had taken. That’s when I realized I was being kidnapped and I had already handed the money whilst holding on to the steering.

“He tried to push me out of the car and bit me in the face until we almost had a head-on collision with a haulage truck which forced him to veer off the road into a road-side gulley,” said Martha.

Irvine was arrested and taken to Marlborough police station where a docket was opened under case number RRB: 1723762. The robber claimed he was Peter’s manager but the Young Ingwe disputed the claims.

“Yes he was serving as my manager but the police made us meet today so he can say it in my face but he didn’t say anything,” said Peter. There were no damages to the car. H Metro
