This is a rare moment. Rare because for the first time in a long stretch, I address something in a party that has my political favour. I am aware of the thirst for critical assessment of matters in the opposition circles. It is not that those of us who are supportive are not critical.
STATEMENT – The Movement for Democratic Change (T) held its 4th national congress in Harare Province at City Sports centre from 31 October to 1 November 2014.
I welcome you all, especially the MDC delegates to this Congress, cognizant of the fact that you have made great personal sacrifices to be here today. I know that some of you have sold your valued assets to be here because you believe that this party and this Congress in particular, will set in a new trajectory that will provide the answer to the monumental national crisis that we all face.
The forthcoming congress is an opportunity for the party to put together a formidable team that will vigorously rekindle the revolutionary flames with a view to winning the 2018 elections.
HARARE – Top Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) officials Nelson Chamisa, Douglas Mwonzora and Tapiwa Mashakada are entangled in a “titanic battle” for the party’s secretary-general (SG) post.
MDC-T national chairperson, Lovemore Moyo, Wednesday rubbished reports that he wants to challenge Thokozani Khupe for MDC-T’s vice-presidency and that he was “not shocked” by the in-fighting in the party as this was usual when a political party is about to hold an elective congress
As the MDC edges closer to its congress, there is a growing battle over proposed constitutional amendments, which is set to put the leader of the party, Morgan Tsvangirai under severe test. Tsvangirai shall have, yet again, to manage and balance opposing camps, both of which are determined to push their way through.
Prominent Harare lawyer and the MDC-T’s spokesman for Harare province, Obert Gutu has reportedly thrown his hat into the ring to contest the treasurer-general’s position at the party’s congress in Harare next month.
OPINION – Truth be told the MDC-T will be shooting itself in the foot if it is to go on with their congress this coming October.
