Star FM DJ, comedian and popular MC Babongile Sikhonjwa dies aged 49
BULAWAYO – Comedian and popular MC Babongile Sikhonjwa who worked for Star FM as a DJ has passed away at the age of 49, his family confirmed.
The sought after MC was a cultural icon from Bulawayo who was affectionately nicknamed the “Ndebele RockStar”.
According to reports Sikhonjwa was visiting a friend when he suddenly collapsed. He was rushed to the United Bulawayo Hospitals but was pronounced dead on arrival.
A statement from his employers Star FM read: “It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Bulawayo-based Star FM presenter Babongile Sikhonjwa.
“His passion, charisma, and deep commitment to the creative arts made him not only a remarkable broadcaster but also a powerful advocate for Zimbabwe’s artistic community.
”Throughout his time with us, Babongile made an indelible mark on the development of the arts industry. He was especially known for his unwavering support of emerging talent, consistently using his platform to profile and promote upcoming artists.
“His efforts helped launch and elevate many careers, and his legacy will live on in the voices and stories he helped bring to light.”
