HARARE – The Premier Soccer League (PSL) and the Zimbabwe Women’s Premier Soccer League (ZWPSL) have postponed this weekend’s fixtures involving FC Platinum and Platinum Royals.
The postponement is in honour of the late Brian Banda.
The FC Platinum midfielder tragically passed away on Sunday following a horrific car accident while travelling from Zvishavane to Bulawayo.
He was 29.
In the wake of his passing, both leagues have cancelled the teams’ scheduled matches as a mark of respect.
FC Platinum were set to travel to Mutare to face Manica Diamonds, while Platinum Royals were due to visit Kwekwe for a match against Kwekwe United Queens.
“Out of respect for the late Brian Banda, the highly anticipated Midlands derby match against Platinum Royals has been postponed and rescheduled to Wednesday, July 9th.
“Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and the football community during this difficult time. May he rest in peace,” said Kwekwe Queens in a statement.
“Matchday 19 versus FC Platinum has been postponed. Apologies for the inconvenience this may cause,” announced Manica Diamonds.
Platinum Royals will fulfill their fixture on Wednesday.
The PSL has yet to confirm a new date for FC Platinum’s rescheduled match.
