HARARE – The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has announced plans to officially launch the ZIFA Cup in 2025 with the exact date yet to be confirmed.
This was revealed in ZIFA’s 100 days progress report under the leadership of newly elected president Nqobile Magwizi.
“…Central to this was the revival of dormant competitions such as the FA Cup now renamed the ZIFA Cup, set to launch in 2025 providing clubs across the country with a vital competitive platform,” reads an excerpt from the ZIFA report.
The 100 days report summarised some of the work that has been done by the Magwizi led executive committee since being voted into office on 25 January.
The five paged report highlights several initiatives undertaken during the first three months in office, with a key focus being the revival of dormant competitions.
Among them is the ZIFA Cup which will be fully funded by the association.
The major tournament will be making it’s return after more than two decades.
The ZIFA Cup is likely set to feature clubs from all tiers of Zimbabwean football, lower division sides to the Premier Soccer League teams, resembling the inclusive format of the famous FA Cup in England.
