The world football governing body FIFA is reportedly considering appointing a new Normalisation Committee (NC), to replace the Lincoln Mutasa led team which is under fire over ‘incompetence’.
According to the state owned Herald newspaper, FIFA “are not satisfied with the reform process in the Zimbabwe game” and are plotting to disband the current ZIFA NC in July.
Furthermore, the publication reported FIFA will “unveil a new Normalisation Committee for ZIFA on July 2”.
This new NC “will be handed a nine-month tenure to complete the task, which Mutasa and his team had set in motion since their July 11, 2023 appointment” wrote the publication.
Harare banker and businessman Nigel Chanakira is rumored to be the leader of the next NC.
The current ZIFA NC led by chairman Lincoln Mutasa was appointed in June 2023 when FIFA lifted Zimbabwe’s ban.
It consists of five members in Mutasa, Nyasha Sanyamandwe, Rosemary Mugadza, Sikhumbuzo Ndebele and Cynthia Malaba.
As it stands, it seems the current NC has dismally failed to complete the FIFA tasks that included running the daily affairs of ZIFA and restructuring of the ZIFA administration.
Furthermore, to establish with the help of FIFA, a collaboration agreement between the Ministry of Sport/the SRC and ZIFA, which will define the responsibilities and objectives of each party, including (but not exclusively) on the topic of sexual harassment.
To review the ZIFA statutes and electoral code to ensure their compliance with the FIFA statutes and ensure their adoption by the ZIFA Congress.
To act as an electoral committee in order to organise and conduct elections of a new ZIFA board based on the newly aligned ZIFA Statutes and electoral code and to ensure a proper financial handover to the new ZIFA board.
