Former Warriors head coach Baltemar Brito believes football in Zimbabwe may see ‘huge’ improvement if Prophet Walter Magaya becomes the next ZIFA President.
The former Highlanders FC head coach took to his official Facebook page to publicly express his desire.
Brito, former assistant coach to Jose Mourinho is confident Zimbabwean football will take a new dimension once the football enthusiast prophet Magaya sits at the helm at ZIFA.
He wrote on Facebook: “I’m doing this post because my feeling and nature is more stronger than anything else. I look to Zimbabwe as one of the country’s with more football talent that I worked during my career as a Football coach, was one of the best suprises during my lifetime even because of how good I felt that country.
“As a second home country, I follow all news and movements related, since long time that I look for Prophet (Walter) Magaya as one of great minds and visionaries in Zimbabwe and because of it, seeing him related with a position of ZIFA boss gives me hope that finally the football there (in Zimbabwe) can win another dimension.
“Let’s have a hope that ZIFA after this elections is in good hands,” Brito wrote.
Despite Brito’s desire, Prophet Magaya is yet to publicly declare his interest in leading ZIFA.
However, his name has been making rounds in football corridors that he is considering to vie for the post.
Brito was appointed the national team head coach by the ZIFA Normalisation Committee (NC) for three months, from September to December 2023.
He took charge of the first two World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda (0-0) and Nigeria (1-1) in November 2023 before he was shown the exit door when his contract expired in December.
The 71-year old Portuguese gaffer who is currently in his native country, is also being backed by the majority of the Warriors faithfuls to return as the senior national team coach.
