HARARE – Log leaders Highlanders FC gave away a two goal lead to draw 2-2 with hosts Herentals at Rufaro Stadium in Harare today.
In form scored Highlanders FC’s striker Brighton ‘Maninja’ Ncube scored in the 18th minute to give visitors the lead.
Maninja’s strike was his fourth of the season in eight games since joining the Bulawayo giants from Chicken Inn as a free agent at the end of the campaign.
Rising star Mvelo Khoza who made his debut on Sunday against Chicken Inn, doubled the lead in the 40th minute.
It was Khoza’s first full start for the senior team following his promotion from the club’s developmental side in the beginning of the 2024 season.
Ncube and Khoza’s first half goals were not enough to hand Bosso a victory on the road as they gave away the two goal lead in the second half.
Herentals FC pulled one back through second half substitute Tafadzwa Jimu who scored in the 50th minute.
The Students continued to fight hard and their persistence was rewarded in the 65th minute, thanks to the former Dynamos defender Godfrey Mukambi.
Following the draw, Herentals winless streak in the 2024 season continued while Bosso fluffed a chance to extend their lead at the top of the log table.
They are now tied on 15 points with Chicken Inn but they are at the summit due to a superior goal difference.
In Zvishavane, former champions FC Platinum lost 1-0 to ZPC Kariba at their backyard at Mandava Stadium.
Ex-FC Platinum striker Stanley Ngala’s solitary goal was enough for the visitors to record a victory on the road.
Ngala netted in the dying minutes of the match to sink his former paymasters.
