PM’s wife to grace Japanese flower show

HARARE – Elizabeth Macheka, wife of Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai will be the guest of honour at the Ikebana Japanese Flower Arrangement Show at Celebration Centre on October 29 and 30.

In a statement to the Daily News, Amos Masango a cultural, information and public relations officer of the Japanese Embassy said, “Our guest of honour shall be Elizabeth Tsvangirai who was in Japan in July this year and participated in an Ikebana demonstration by the same teachers who are coming to Zimbabwe.”

Masango said next week, Japan Foundation in cooperation with Incorporated Foundation Sogetsu will hold a lecture demonstration and workshop on Ikebana at Celebration Centre, Harare. Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arrangement.

“It is more than simply putting flowers in a container. It is a disciplined art form in which the arrangement is a living thing where nature and humanity are brought together, a philosophy of developing closeness with nature.”

The embassy invites flower lovers to come and enjoy the event.

“You are welcome to bring friends and family and enjoy the charm and fascination of Ikebana that harmonises Japanese sense of beauty and African flowers.”

The events will be free of charge and simultaneous interpretation is available. The dispatched experts from Japan are, Misei Ishikawa, Sogetsu head office lecturer, Seika Kasuya, Sogetsu head office assistant lecturer and Kouji Kurata, Sogetsu Bunka Jigyo.

Sihan Ishikawa carries more than 40 years of experience including extensive travel and exhibitions in India and Kenya. She is also an experienced potter who is talented to utilise both vase and flowers.

On Monday, October 29, a lecture demonstration will take place from 1400 to 1600 hours and on Tuesday, October 30, another workshop will take place from 1400 to 1600 hours. Masango said prior booking through the embassy is required for those who want to attend because of limited space. Daily News
