HARARE – A 33-year-old Guruve man, Anymore Zvitsva, accused of carrying out a series of brutal attacks across Mashonaland Central, has been remanded in custody after appearing before a Harare magistrate from his hospital bed.

Zvitsva was arrested on Jan. 3 following a lengthy manhunt in mountainous areas. He faces 12 murder charges, as well as multiple counts of rape and attempted murder, allegedly committed between April 2024 and December 2025 in Guruve and Mvurwi.

Prosecutors allege Zvitsva targeted victims in their homes and fields, often at night, using weapons including snare wire, knives and spears. Police say items recovered at his arrest link him to the attacks.

The court heard that Zvitsva poses a flight risk and a danger to the public. He was remanded in custody to Jan. 19 and advised to apply for bail at the High Court as investigations continue.
