HARARE – Sungura musician Alick Macheso has cancelled two of his shows in Chivhu and Mutoko scheduled for 12 and 13 December respectively, to honour his mentor Nicholas Zakaria, who passed away on Thursday, 11 December.

Macheso, who has been mourning Madzibaba Zakaria, posted on his official Facebook page announcing to his fans that he has to cancel this weekend’s shows.

“To our fans, we apologize that we have to cancel some of our shows we had scheduled for this weekend,” wrote Macheso.

Speaking in a video, Macheso poured his heart out, expressing his deep hurt over the passing of the Senior Lecturer.

“This is a big loss to us. He was a father to me, a father to his family, and a father to the nation.

“This is a person we considered a guru in our industry, so it’s really painful because we were not prepared for this moment, but God has done his will. We are finding it very hard to accept,” said Macheso.

Zakaria, who was one of the founding members of the Khiama Boys, had been battling hypertension and diabetes.

A video of him struggling to walk was widely spread on social media in July.
