BULAWAYO – Bulawayo Chiefs have secured a quick return to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) after clinching the ZIFA Southern Region Soccer League title.
Chiefs who were relegated last season, sealed their promotion with a 2-1 victory over Bosso 90 at the Chiefs Village on Saturday, taking their tally to 73 points with two matches remaining in the season.
Reacting to the achievement, Chiefs Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Thulani ‘Javas’ Sibanda expressed pride in the club’s resilience and identity.
“We are Bulawayo Chiefs, and Bulawayo Chiefs will continue being Bulawayo Chiefs regardless of who’s here or who’s not,” Sibanda said.
“For now, we’re just focusing on enjoying this victory. We’ll celebrate for a while, and then we’ll think about tomorrow when tomorrow comes.”
Sibanda also reflected on the lessons learned during the team’s stint in Division One, emphasising their determination to maintain top-flight status.
“I think the lessons we’ve learnt in Division One are even greater than those from our time in the Premier League,” he said.
“Those lessons will ensure that we don’t come back here again. It’s been a season full of learning, and we’re taking that knowledge with us to the Premier League.
“When we get there, we’re not going to return — we’re going to stay. We’ve learned our lessons, and we’re ready to slay any giants that may be waiting for us.”
Bulawayo Chiefs became the second team to secure promotion to the 2025 PSL season, following FC Hunters, who won the ZIFA Eastern Region Soccer League last week.
