BULAWAYO – Highlanders Football Club have paid tribute to popular Star FM presenter and entertainment personality Babongile Sikhonjwa, who passed away on Sunday.
News of Sikhonjwa’s death circulated after his family confirmed it to local media.
While the exact cause is yet to be established, it is reported that he experienced breathing complications before being rushed to United Bulawayo Hospitals, where he sadly took his last breath.
In a statement, Highlanders mourned the loss of one of their most passionate supporters.
“It is with profound sorrow that Highlanders FC mourns the passing of Babongile Sikhonjwa, a cherished Highlanders FC life member and a beloved figure in Zimbabwe’s entertainment industry.
“In addition to his passion for football, Babongile was a vibrant force in the entertainment world. His charisma, creativity, and passion lit up stages and screens across the country.
“As a media personality, performer, and cultural contributor, he brought joy to countless lives and helped shape Zimbabwe’s artistic landscape. His voice, humour, and energy made him a household name, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of entertainers.
“We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
“May you find comfort in the memories of his laughter, his loyalty, and his love for both sport and the arts,” read the statement.
Sikhonjwa, a proud Highlanders life member, will be laid to rest on Saturday at his rural home in Gwanda.
