WASHINGTON – A senior official in the US government has warned foreigners who write comments celebrating the death of right wing activist Charlie Kirk, a trusted ally of President Donald Trump, who was shot dead on Wednesday.

US Undersecretary of State, Christopher Landau, says “appropriate action” will be taken against “foreigners who glorify violence”.

Writing on X, Landau said he has been “disgusted” to see comments on social media “praising, rationalising or making light” of the killing of Charlie Kirk and those who “glorify violence and hatred” are “not welcome visitors” to the country.

He says consular officials have been directed to “undertake appropriate action” and he told his followers on X “to bring such comments by foreigners to my attention so that the State Department can protect the American people”.

Kirk was shot dead on Wednesday at the age of 31 while hosting a college event for Turning Point USA.

The event at Utah Valley University, where he was gunned down, was the first stop on a planned 15-event “American Comeback Tour” of college campuses, where attendees were invited to argue with Kirk.

A few months ago he ironically said; “It’s worth it to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment”.
