RUSAPE – CAPS United legend Alois Bunjira was involved in a road accident on Saturday in the morning around 10am at St. Faith’s High School turn off, about 8km from Rusape along the Rusape-Nyanga Road.

He along with those in the car were rushed to Rusape General Hospital where they are being treated.

Pictures of a visibly bloodied and shaken Bunjira at the hospital were shared on social media.

Bunjira and his group were heading to Honde Valley to oversee preparations for his Honde Valley Marathon that he hopes to have recognised as a qualifier for the prestigious Comrades Marathon in South Africa.

A vehicle driving behind had Comrades Marathon representatives who were going to mark and certify the NetOne Albun Honde Valley Marathon to be a qualifier.

An eye witness said “It’s so sad how the accident happened. There was an Isuzu KB250 single cab pick up coming from Nyanga carrying some passengers(4 in front seat including driving) and some at the back(pan).

“It tried to overtake an Inter Africa bus at a curve which is about 200m from St. Faith’s High School turn off. By so doing it encroached into Alois Bunjira’s lane at high speed and the rest is history. 😢😢.

“One person died on the spot, and another one pronounced dead upon arrival at Rusape General Hospital, with several injured (some critical).

“And we established that this Isuzu motorist who was at fault actually circumvented a police roadblock which was a few kilometers from the accident scene. 🙄.

“Kutiza mapurisa chokwadi obva aurayisa mukadzi wake and another person? Apotsa atotiitira zvisizvowo to our members of this group.”

I think each city/metropolitan area or province need to have it's own highway patrol units independent of ZRP. People who are exclusively trained to deal with traffic. Like in SA.

Something is wrong with these road accidents in Zimbabwe. Minister of transport should tighten traffic laws. The system how the department is run must be revamped. In countries like South Africa ,other countries and Europe continent accidents are there but not at this rate. This is because of the system they have when it comes to traffic laws. That department in Zimbabwe need to be changed totally.
