Political satirist Cucs Man apologises for blind loyalty to ‘time waster’ Chamisa

Must Try

I want to take this opportunity to publicly apologise to people like Hopewell Chin’ono, Freeman Chari, Pedzisai Ruhanya and all others who have always chosen to be objective in Zimbabwe’s political discourse.

For a long time, I was a blind and religious supporter of Nelson Chamisa. I was deeply entrenched in the toxic bootlicking culture that has sadly become the norm in Zimbabwean politics where supporters refuse to accept any form of criticism directed at their preferred leaders.

I was defensive, dismissive, and at times outright toxic towards anyone who pointed out the flaws in Chamisa’s leadership. I see now that this was wrong.

I ridiculed and bashed those who dared to speak truth, even when the signs were evident. But today, I can boldly say: I was wrong, and you were right to call things out.

Since 2013, I clung to the promises, slogans, and declarations that “a new Zimbabwe is coming” or “God is in it.”

I believed the assurances that there would be no rigging in 2023, that victory was certain. But after the elections were rigged, Chamisa did nothing. When a random figure like Sengezo Tshabangu hijacked the party and began recalling MPs, Chamisa again did nothing.

He left CCC, and we were left without representation. All we’ve received from him since are motivational quotes, scriptures, and now, yet another promise of forming a new political party.

I’ve come to the painful realisation that this is a cycle of unseriousness, deception, and wasted time. I no longer wish to be part of that echo chamber. I choose objectivity, truth, and progress over blind loyalty.

I want to publicly acknowledge and appreciate voices like Hopewell, Freeman, Ruhanya, and many others who have stood firm, even when it was unpopular to do so. You have helped shape necessary political conversations in Zimbabwe, and your courage is needed more than ever.

To everyone I offended, insulted, or dismissed I am sincerely sorry. My past conduct was immature, and I take full responsibility for it.

Yes, some are now calling me a sellout simply because I am questioning Chamisa, but I am not moved. I’m driven by a desire to see a better and more credible opposition in Zimbabwe one that is serious, strategic, and focused on delivering real change, not just vibes and slogans.

It’s time we stop glorifying individuals and start demanding accountability, substance, and tangible solutions from our leaders. Our people deserve better.

Thank you for reading, and once again, I apologise.
