Salif Cheya sinks Bosso again as MWOS completes double over Bulawayo giants
BULAWAYO – Salif Cheya’s 87th minute strike was enough to hand MWOS a hard fought 1-0 win over Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday, completing a season double over the Bulawayo giants.
Cheya was also the hero in the reverse fixture on matchday one at Baobab Stadium, where he scored the only goal in another 1-0 win that marked a historic victory for MWOS in their debut Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season.
Coming off the bench on Sunday, Cheya once again punished Bosso despite the hosts dominating the match.
His late tap-in at the Soweto End sent Bosso fans into despair, with some leaving the stadium immediately after the goal.
The win saw MWOS reclaim top spot on the log, taking advantage of Simba Bhora’s 1-1 draw with FC Platinum at Mandava Stadium on Saturday.
Reacting to the win, MWOS coach Lloyd Mutasa praised his team’s resilience:
“The boys persevered from start to finish and there’s a growing belief in themselves even after setbacks. We were fortunate today.”
On the other side, newly appointed Bosso interim coach Try Ncube, who took over last week following the sacking of Kelvin Kaindu, expressed his frustration:
“It’s a painful one. I’m very disappointed, especially after we dominated the match.”
