Maglas Stadium Mayhem: Police in Zimbabwe confirm two people were injured

ZVISHAVANE – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed that two people were injured during the chaos that broke out on Sunday at Maglas Stadium during a Central Region Soccer League match between Gwanda Pirates and Shabanie Mine.

The ZRP who took to X to confirm the injuries, also said investigation of the public violence are ongoing.

“The ZRP confirms a public violence incident which occurred at Maglas Stadium during a Central Region Division One soccer match between Gwanda Pirates FC and Shabanie Mine on 18/05/25. Two people were injured. Investigations are in progress,” wrote ZRP.

The match was abandoned in the 68th minute, following violent crowd disturbances, with one fan reportedly injured after being stabbed near the heart.

Details surrounding the chaos at Maglas Stadium remain unclear, with both teams deflecting blame for the incident.

The country’s football mother body, ZIFA, condemned violence, also confirming investigations are underway.

ZIFA said it “remains firmly committed to protecting the integrity of football in Zimbabwe and ensuring that it is a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable experience for all”.
