DURBAN – At a time when the Zimbabwean football fraternity believes Tendai ‘Fire’ Ndoro fully recovered following signs of improvement in 2022 after a dire health condition in the previous year, fresh unconfirmed reports exclusively reaching Nehanda Radio have suggested otherwise.

The former Zimbabwe Warriors striker is reportedly seriously ill, battling diabetes, and is currently hospitalised in Durban.

This reporter is in possession of a leaked audio recording in which Ndoro’s mother is heard discussing her son’s condition with one of the former Orlando Pirates striker’s friends from the neighbourhood.

In the audio, Ndoro’s mother pleads with the unnamed friend, who was seeking repayment of a US$300 loan that Ndoro borrowed last year, promising to repay with interest.

While Ndoro reportedly paid part of the debt, it is said a balance of US$150 still remains outstanding.

The friend has been making follow ups to recover the remaining amount but to no avail.

As a result, frustrated by the delay, the friend reportedly took the matter to a WhatsApp group, where the issue was discussed among nearly 40 participants.

The matter then reached Ndoro’s mother, who reportedly expressed anger and confronted her son’s friend for raising the issue in such a public forum.

Despite her anger, Ndoro’s mother went on to send a heartfelt voice message to the friend, revealing for the first time that Ndoro was hospitalised in South Africa.

She is heard in the audio telling Ndoro’s friend that the family got this information after being contacted by an unknown woman from South Africa whom she believes has been staying with her son.

According to her, the family had not been in touch with Ndoro for several months.

“Tamuka mwanangu. Saka mkomana hana kuzokupindura here? Kutaura izvezvi kwandiri kuita kudai, Tendai ari muchipatara. Ariku Durban,” she said in the leaked audio.

“Munhu waarikugara naye ndiye akatoita zvekufona kutiudza kuti Tendai ari muchipatara sezvo anga asingatauri nesu. Sugar yake hanzi iri low zvisingaite.

“Zviri kundirwadza izvezvi kuti mari zvino ndoyiwanepi yekuti ndinomuona kana kumutora.

“Zviri kunzi maziso ake akawira zvisingaiti and akabuda mamota muhapwa. Parizvino ndiri panguva yakaoma mwanangu.”

Meanwhile, the mother’s emotional plea has resulted in some members of the WhatsApp group proposing to contribute money, helping bring Ndoro back home to Zimbabwe for better care and support.

The ex-Chicken Inn striker has struggled with health issues in recent years.

In 2021, he fell seriously ill and reportedly lost his eyesight for three weeks before eventually recovering.
