HARARE – Mureza Auto Company, one of Africa’s first black-owned car manufacturing companies, has announced its decision to establish its headquarters in Zimbabwe, signaling a significant investment in the African automotive market.
The company unveiled plans for a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Beatrice, which will serve as the central hub for its vehicle production.
The proposed factory will encompass a 10,000 square meter assembly plant and a substantial 50,000 square meter powertrain plant. Mureza anticipates that these facilities will generate a minimum of 5,000 permanent jobs.
The strategic direction of Mureza Auto will be overseen by an Executive Board, led by Fourfold Tendai Chigumadzi.
“The factory will comprise a 10,000 square meter plant dedicated to vehicle assembly and a 50,000 square meter powertrain plant.
“These facilities will employ a minimum of 5,000 permanent staff, contributing significantly to the local economy and providing opportunities for Zimbabweans.
“Our Executive Board, led by Eng. Fourfold Tendai Chigumadzi, will oversee the strategic direction of the company.
“The board brings together experienced professionals with a deep understanding of the automotive industry and a passion for innovation,” Chido Nemhara, the company’s marketing and communication stated.

Mureza plans to launch with two primary models: the Shona Sedan and the T-One Pick Up. Notably, both models will offer consumers a choice between electric vehicle (EV) and internal combustion engine (ICE) powertrains.
The car manufacturing firm has reported a strong initial demand for its vehicles, stating that its order book already contained 20,000 units from across Africa, including Senegal, Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.
“This strong demand underscores the potential for our factory to not only meet local needs but also to export vehicles to other markets, generating valuable foreign currency for Zimbabwe,” Nemhara noted.
“By establishing our headquarters and manufacturing facility in Zimbabwe, we are committed to contributing to the country’s economic growth and development.
“We believe that our investment will have a positive impact on the local economy and provide opportunities for Zimbabweans to participate in the automotive industry.
“Mureza is excited about the future and looks forward to working with the Zimbabwean government, local communities, and partners to achieve our goals.”

The company, which describes itself as an African car company, is currently based in South Africa.
Mureza was co-founded by Tatenda Mungofa, who serves as the company’s CEO.
