Blaming Chitembwe alone is unfair says CAPS United assistant coach Tonderai Marume

HARARE – After suffering their fourth straight defeat at the hands of Bikita Minerals at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday, CAPS United’s second assistant coach, Tonderai Marume said it is unfair to place all the blame on head coach Lloyd Chitembwe.

Marume defended Chitembwe amid mounting criticism from fans, many of whom are calling for his resignation.

“It’s a mischief to point out at the head coach. It’s not fair to blame the coach alone. He is doing his best, it unfortunate results are not coming and he wants the team to win just as much as the fans do.

“It’s unfair for fans to castigate him. He doesn’t get into the field of play hoping to lose, he also wants to see the team win.

“His ideas have been brilliant for many years. It’s unfortunate that people speak negatively about him, but if you look at his record, he is the most successful coach Caps United has had. He has won the league both as a coach and as a player,” said Marume after Sunday’s 1-0 defeat.

Meanwhile, a report by H-Metro suggests the club is now searching for a new gaffer set to replace Chitembwe who has been labelled by CAPS fans as a “life coach”.

The report suggests ex-Makepekepe star Ian Bakala is set to be roped in as one of the club’s new technical team members.

CAPS United with four points are sitting on 17th position in a league with 18 teams. They are playing Yadah in their next assignment.
