Hands off Mablanyo: Fix yourselves first, DeMbare executive told by fans

Must Try

HARARE – The Dynamos executive has come under fire from the club’s supporters, who have urged the leadership to refrain from plotting the dismissal of head coach Lloyd ‘Mablanyo’ Chigowe.

The fans are instead pointing fingers at the Bernard Marriot led executive, insisting the club must first address its internal issues before considering sacking the coach or his technical team.

Several DeMbare fans believe the club is being mismanaged under Marriot’s leadership, which they claim is unfairly shifting the blame onto Mablanyo.

Concerns have mounted after the Harare giants endured a dismal start to the season, recording just one win and scoring a solitary goal in six matches.

DeMbare’s struggles worsened on Sunday following a 1-0 defeat to Chicken Inn at Rufaro Stadium.

After the match, fans gathered outside the stadium, where they voiced their frustrations, directing strong criticism at the club’s executive.

Most of the supporters spared Mablanyo from blame, arguing the coach should not be fired because the root of the team’s problems lies in the leadership.

In an interview with Nehanda Radio, members of the club’s Bulawayo Chapter unanimously agreed that Marriot is mismanaging Dynamos, calling him “the root of all problems at the team.”

“Marriot is the root of all problems at Dynamos. With the way the club is being run, we are rapidly losing popularity.

“Even if the club brings in Pep Guardiola, nothing would change. As long as the players are not motivated, we are far from achieving anything,” said one Bulawayo Chapter member.

Another added: “The team is being run unprofessionally under Marriot. We saw improvement during former club’s vice chairman Vincent Chawonza’s tenure, he brought a sense of professionalism. But after his dismissal, things have gone downhill.”

“Personally, I believe Marriot is the main culprit, not Mablanyo. He has failed to provide essential resources, both financial and in terms of human capital, to strengthen the squad after losing several senior players. The coach is not the problem,” said another executive member.

Staunch Dynamos supporter Adomusi Makhosi echoed similar sentiments: “Marriot has killed Dynamos. It’s no longer the club we used to love and support. He needs to improve the way the club is run.”

These remarks come amid reports the Dynamos executive is considering sacking Mablanyo due to the team’s poor form.

An emergency meeting was reportedly held on Monday at Holiday Inn, where club executives and members of the technical team met to discuss the way forward.
