DJ Fantan’s ex-wife Gamu speaks on why she fled Zimbabwe to South Africa
HARARE – Gamuchirai Nemukuyu, the ex-wife of Chillspot founder DJ Fantan, has claimed that she fled Zimbabwe because of the harassment that she was being subjected to by her ex-husband.
Nemukuyu disappeared last week with the couple’s two children Rufaro Kamudyariwa (6) and Ruvheneko Kamudyariwa (5), leading to the Fantan mounting a frantic search for the trio.
Speaking from her new base in South Africa, Nemukuyu said she had been driven by Fantan’s abuse to flee the country.
“I left the country because of how my ex-husband was treating me. I couldn’t take the frustration and the torture that I got every day,” she said.
Nemukuyu said Fantan had made it a habit to even call her at odd hours of the day, even though they were no longer romantically linked.
“I was tormented, he would call in the middle of the night, would call early in the morning and act as if he wanted to check the welfare of the kids.
“At one time he called me around 6 am and said, ‘do you want to help the kids with homework?’ Who does that? Who calls someone at six?,” she said.
Nemukuyu said that the Chillspot boss would even visit her unannounced on occasions, with the intention of sparking arguments.
“He would come and say I’m coming from the gym, I just want to check up on the kids and then start arguments for no reason,” she claimed.
Gamu also addressed their divorce, clarifying that Fantan was the one who ended their marriage.
“Fantan ended the marriage with me. I was hurt and I cried but I never went to his new marriage to cause drama nor have I come on social media and say stuff about him after he broke up with me,” she said.
