SHURUGWI – Five bodies including a heavily pregnant woman and three relatives have been retrieved from a disused chrome pit in Shurugwi after a Honda Fit plunged into the 30m deep pit on Sunday evening.
Shurugwi District Development Coordinator (DDC) Romeo Shangwa said the fifth passenger’s body was retrieved this morning after pumping out water from the shaft overnight.
The other four bodies were retrieved with assistance from Police’s sub aqua unit.
Shangwa said the sixth passenger managed to swim out of the pit when the vehicle plunged into the pit.
Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said they are yet to release the names of the five deceased passengers.
The Honda Fit was travelling towards Zvishavane.
