BULAWAYO – Police found over $US4000 and R19 000 on the businessman who reportedly turned a gun on himself outside his mistress’ home in Bulawayo on Saturday evening.
John Tafara Madzikatire, the owner of Samaz Butchery around the popular Chigumira areas in Luveve, appeared to have died from a bullet fired from his own gun.
Madzikatire, a married father of two, was found dead on Saturday night with police treating his case as suicide, although not ruling out foul play.
Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele of Bulawayo police said: “Police are treating the case as suicide but investigations are continuing.”
According to the B-Metro newspaper, neighbours expressed disbelief at the tragic incident. One resident, who knew the businessman, described him as a hardworking and friendly individual.
“This is very sad and shocking,” said the resident. “He was a respected man, and I never imagined something like this could happen.”
According to The Chronicle newspaper, people close to the late Mr Madzikatire, revealed that two days before his death, he posted a troubling message on his WhatsApp status:
“If I leave this world u (you) will not say l am a coward, you better call me a coward, and I have no choice.”
