HARARE – Opposition leader Nelson Chamisa, who has been accused several times of failing to lead a formidable movement to dismantle the ruling Zanu-PF party, has expressed his unwavering faith and determination in defeating the country’s oppressors, urging his followers to believe in God.

Drawing inspiration from the biblical story of Gideon, Chamisa stated that even in the face of adversity, God is always present and will ultimately lead them to victory.

The former CCC leader who resigned last year in January from the party he founded has been accused of being weak because of his constant mention of Bible verses while failing to lead mass protests against the “oppressive” government.

In a statement on Thursday morning, Chamisa encouraged Zimbabweans to trust in God and not let their circumstances diminish their faith. He reminded them that God is always with them, even in the midst of challenges and hardships.

Chamisa also highlighted the story of Gideon, who, despite being outnumbered and inadequate, was chosen by God to lead Israel to victory against the oppressive Midianites.

“Our circumstances, although painfully difficult, sometimes seemingly unbearable, do not equate to the absence of God. God is in it. He is for us. He is with us and He is the determiner and definer of our destiny as a people. And we shall be victorious,” Chamisa said.

“When we walk through the difficult times, dark isles and hard places, we must continue to trust Him.

“Cry out for help to our Great God. He hears us. He sees us. He knows us. He loves us. He created us.

“We are seen, heard, known and loved beyond measure, more than anything we could possibly imagine.

“There is never a time or a place in our lives where He has abandoned or forsaken us and there never will be. Do not allow your circumstances to diminish your faith.

“God meets us right where we are, no matter our circumstances or situations. Zimbabwe is in His hands.

“God meets us right there in the midst of our challenges, persecutions, trials, struggles and agonies. We are taken through the fires not to be burned and punished, but to be purified and saved. He walks us, and even carries us through them.”

Chamisa’s message comes at a time when Zimbabwe is facing significant political and economic challenges.

The ruling Zanu-PF party is facing a succession crisis, with President Emmerson Mnangagwa allegedly planning to amend the Constitution to seek another term.

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, who is the frontrunner in the race to succeed Mnangagwa, is opposed to the term extension plan. This has resulted in serious factional battles within the ruling party.
