Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga has been fired via retirement and replaced by his Deputy Commissioner-General (DCG) Stephen Mutamba.
Matanga, was appointed in 2018 after the military coup that ousted long-time president Robert Mugabe in 2017 and was meant to complete his term at the end in 2028.
Nehanda Radio sources say he is being earmarked for a post in the diplomatic service, a popular dumping ground for retired security chiefs.
Mutamba meanwhile will assume his new post effect 01 January 2025.
The appointment was confirmed by Dr Martin Rushwaya, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, in a Press statement dated 20 December 2024.
