Business tycoons Wicknell Chivayo and Pedzisai ‘Scott’ Sakupwanya have announced a US$250,000 donation to the Zimbabwe Warriors as a token of appreciation for qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Warriors secured their place in the prestigious tournament after a 1-1 draw against Kenya in Polokwane, South Africa last week Friday.
As a result, Chivayo took to his social media platforms to announce him and Sakupwanya whose Betterbrands company is sponsoring the Warriors, have pledged US$250 000 to the team.
“AFCON GLORY… The Zimbabwe national team, the Warriors have proudly secured their qualification for the 2025 AFCON, marking a significant milestone in our nation’s sporting history,” Chivayo announced.
“This achievement has been built on teamwork dedication and skill, and highlights the collective effort of the players, technical team, and support staff.
“As a NATIONAL team, the Warriors represent the spirit and resilience of Zimbabwe under the visionary leadership of PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa
“In line with the President’s mantra of “LEAVING NO ONE AND NO PLACE BEHIND” and in unwavering support of local sports, Hon. Scott Sakupwanya and I are proud to announce a small donation of USD250,000 to the Warriors.
“This gesture serves as a token of appreciation for their exceptional achievement in raising Zimbabwe’s flag high on the continental stage.
“Upon our return from Paris next week and after all required protocols have been observed through the ministry of sports, we will officially hand over this contribution for the team’s collective benefit.
“We applaud the second republic for its steadfast commitment to sports development and its recognition of excellence in Zimbabwe’s athletes.
“The government’s support has been instrumental in the Warriors’ success and continues to pave the way for further progress in the sporting arena.
Chivayo used to be a benefactor of the Warriors during the days of the former Zimbabwe Football Association president Phillip Chiyangwa.
