Bulawayo giants Highlanders FC have joined the nation in mourning the loss of renowned historian, filmmaker, and writer Phathisa Nyathi.
Nyathi passed away at a private hospital in Bulawayo this past Saturday at the age of 73.
Highlanders have taken to social media to express their sorrow.
“We are deeply saddened to bid farewell to a renowned historian and arts icon, Pathisa Nyathi.
“His passing leaves a tremendous void, we mourn the loss of a true treasure. May he rest in peace. Ulale ngokuthula,” the club wrote.
Nyathi, a prolific writer and intellectual is survived by three children.
He was a widower by the time of his death.
Nyathi’s works significantly contributed to the understanding of Zimbabwe’s history and culture.
He was a dedicated advocate for the arts and culture in Zimbabwe.
The former secretary-general of the Zimbabwe Writers Union was laid to on Wednesday at the Lady Stanley Cemetery in Bulawayo.
