There was a touch of pomp and fanfare in Domboshava over the weekend, as the family of the late flamboyant businessman Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure unveiled his tombstone and mausoleum built in his honour.

The elaborately constructed mausoleum was built with the late businessman favourite Versace finishings around the building.

Family and friends came from far and wide to witness the tombstone unveiling, which was billed as a celebration of the life of a man who left an indelible mark on Zimbabwean society.

One of the speakers at the event was businesswoman Zodwa Mkandla, who was Ginimbi’s partner. In her speech, Mkandla spoke of the complicated relationship she shared with the late Ginimbi.

“We used to fight all the time but we loved each other dearly. He was a very good friend of mine. It was a huge loss to lose him. I’m sure those that stayed with him, that survived with him, knew the kind of person that he was.

“He was a person that loved having fun and playing around. Genius worked hard and played very hard, but everything that he did, he did out of love. He loved his family, he loved his friends,” she said.

Self-proclaimed retired blesser, South African socialite Serge Cabonge, said Ginimbi has inspired young people to want to work hard.

“The Legacy of Ginimbi taught the young generation to work hard, the spot Ginimbi left is big and was the best, as he was a good friend more like a brother to those close to him,” Cabonge said.

Ginimbi died on the spot on November 8 2020 along Liberation Legacy Way in Harare when his speeding Rolls Royce collided head-on with a Honda Fit.

Two people, model Alicia Adams and fitness trainer, Michelle “Moana’ Amuli were burnt to death when the car veered off the road and hit a tree before catching fire.

The doors of the Rolls Royce jammed on impact and it took many hours for police and the Fire Brigade to retrieve their remains from the wreckage.
