HARARE – Former Zimbabwe senior national team fitness trainer Temba Mliswa has hinted at throwing his hat in the rang for the highly anticipated ZIFA presidential elections set for next year.
Mliswa’s name emerged through social media as a potential candidate for the esteemed ZIFA top post.
Seeking confirmation whether it’s true or not, Nehanda Radio contacted the former Norton MP who expressed interest in contesting for the hot seat.
“If I was a Dynamos chairman, why not lead ZIFA,” the outspoken former parliamentarian told Nehanda Radio.
Mliswa worked as a fitness trainer for some local football clubs including CAPS United and the now defunct Blackpool.
He has a rich history in sports, particularly rugby and believes his involvement and experience is enough for him to contest for the ZIFA presidential post.
“I have been around in sport for quite a long period of time. I was the fitness trainer when CAPS United won a double, I worked in the same capacity when the Warriors won the COSAFA Cup when Norman Mapeza was the captain and Misheck Marimo was the head coach.
“I was the director of coaching for the Zimbabwe rugby team, I was the national coach and director of coaching for the Zambia Rugby Union recommended by the international rugby board. Sport is in my blood,” added Mliswa.
Furthermore, he said the majority of people (around him) have approached him encouraging him to vie for the post.
“A lot of people have spoken to me and are encouraging me to contest,” he revealed.
Mliswa said his desire is to “put order in place (at ZIFA). I want transparency and I don’t want corruption”.
“I want the sport to grow. My goal has always been putting something back to sport,” further highlighted Mliswa.
