KWEKWE – FC Wangu Mazodze, a club owned by aspiring Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) presidential candidate Richard Mazodze, has been demoted from the ZIFA Central Region league due to its failure to fulfill three sanctioned matches.
The decision was announced in a letter dated 27 September 2024, written by Nyapomwe, the league’s administrator.
“We refer to the above matter and advise you that due to the club’s failure to fulfill three (3) sanctioned league matches, FC Wangu Mazodze City has been suspended with immediate effect as guided by the Central Region Soccer League rules and regulations Sub-section 5.9,” reads the letter seen by Nehanda Radio.
“Consequently, FC Wangu Mazodze City loses all its membership rights as defined in ZIFA Statutes, with immediate effect. The club is no longer entitled to take part in any league competitions effective 29 September 2024.
“Moreover, the club is reminded not to enter into any sporting contact with the Central Region Soccer League (CRSL) and or its member clubs during the suspension of the club.
Additionally, the club was slapped with US$3262 fine.
“The club must service its statutory obligations of US$3262 without fail before deciding to join any league or reinstated to CRSL. Let me take this opportunity to thank you for participating in the league and wish you success in your endeavour.”
Wangu Mazodze have two franchises with the the other team competing in the ZIFA Eastern Region.
While the team based in the Central Region has been demoted, the other side is currently leading the pack in the Eastern Region, and is on the verge of securing promotion to the top flight.
Last week Mazodze was trending for all the wrong reasons after he appointed his 8-year-old son Richardell as the club’s new Assistant Team Manager.
The appointment was announced in a statement on Friday, with the words; “President Sibbs hereby appoints Special Prince Richardell Wangu Mazodze as Assistant Team Manager.”
