HARARE – The University of Zimbabwe (UZ) has officially confirmed that ZANU PF Central Committee member Dexter Nduna did not graduate with a law degree, contradicting his earlier claims of achieving the academic milestone.
Nduna, a former Chegutu West MP and chairperson for resource mobilisation and revenue generation in the Zanu-PF central committee, failed to meet graduation requirements due to outstanding modules.
According to a leaked memo from the UZ, Nduna failed three courses: Energy and Mining Law, Labour Law, and Language Acquisition and Intercultural Communication Literacy (Chinese Language).
Despite this, he embarrassingly purchased a graduation gown and attended the ceremony while not sitting in the same tent with fellow law graduates.
Nduna had claimed on social media to have graduated from UZ, congratulating himself on the achievement.
But the UZ Faculty of Law has released a notice listing students who did not graduate in 2024 due to outstanding courses, including Nduna. He is required to repeat the failed courses in the 2024/2025 academic year.
“The following students were meant to graduate in 2024 but could not meet the graduation requirements since they had some outstanding courses.
“They are therefore requested to register the failed courses with the Students and Registration Office so that they can repeat them in the 2024/2025 Academic year,” read part of the memo.
It has also emerged that Nduna’s appeal for a remarking of his exams, citing political bias, was unsuccessful. His letter to the faculty had a Zanu-PF letterhead.
Tafadzwa Mugwadi, a Zanu-PF MP and a former party director of information, who graduated with a law degree on the same day, has seemingly mocked Nduna by sharing the UZ memo stating, “Officially and publicly! Case closed”
