Zimbabwean rising football star Nokutenda Mangezi who recently signed for South African Premiership giants SuperSport United, has revealed that he idolises former Warriors and Kaizer Chiefs star Knowledge Musona.
In an interview with SABC Sport ahead of their match against TS Galaxy on Wednesday, Mangezi expressed his admiration for Musona.
He said: “So, Musona started, and of course there’s Terence [Dzvukamanja], there’s Khama Billiat, there’s Ndoro [Tendai], there’s lots of guys. But when we grew up, we always knew Musona because he was more popular.”
The 19-year-old Real Betis Academy product, emphasised Musona’s influence on his career.
“Growing up in Zimbabwe, watching Musona playing and scoring, he was my idol. So, you’ll hear me saying I want to be like Musona one day or even better than him,” Mangezi added.
Mangezi who plays as a striker, made his debut for SuperSport United last time when they lost 2-0 to Mamelodi Sundowns.
Following his impressive performance and move to SuperSport United, the former Simba Bhora player was called up for the Zimbabwe Warriors U-20s.
He was named in the provisional squad for the Zimbabwe U-20 national team ahead of the upcoming AFCON – COSAFA qualifiers slated for this week.
However, he will miss the tournament due to SuperSport United’s request to ZIFA for his exemption.
The club cited key upcoming matches as the reason for his absence.
